A Refreshing and Filling Sorbet With Avocado and Lime

Brain Body Diet Recipe | Avocado Lime Sorbet| Sara Gottfried MD

Bring in the zest, because avocado lime sorbet is the best! This recipe from Brain Body Diet is fabulous in so many ways. First, it has avocado, everyone’s favorite healthy fat. Avocado is one of my top recommended foods to help clear food cravings because it’s fatty, satiating and helps heal the metabolism. Additionally, the fats in healthy fats, like avocados, nuts, and fish, help neurotransmitters move rapidly from neuron to neuron. Plant-based monosaturated fats have been found to protect memory.

Avocados are a good fat the fortify the gut-brain axis by keeping us feeling full and reinstate balance to the microbiome. Rich in magnesium and chromium, avocados reduce the nutrient gaps that lead to blood sugar problems. Magnesium, in particular, counters stress response, helps your muscles release, and may even enhance your sleep.

I add limes for an extra punch of antioxidants. Drinking juice from fresh lemons or limes is a great way to flush toxins out of the system and get the digestive system moving!

Stir up a jug of this sorbet with unsweetened almond milk or water for a fresh treat! Bring on the chill!

Serves 2 to 4

2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or water, if you prefer a lighter taste and icier texture)
1⁄2 cup xylitol or erythritol
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon lime zest
1⁄2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

Place the ingredients in a food processor or blender and combine.

Ice cream machine method: Transfer the mixture to the chilled container of your ice cream machine. Prepare and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Hand method: Place the mixture into a freezer-safe container and freeze for 1 hour. Over the next 3 to 4 hours, remove the mixture from the freezer and whisk it slightly every 20 minutes to prevent it from getting too icy. It should thicken after each whisking until it’s firm enough to scoop.

Best if eaten within 24 hours.
